There are several steps in the proper development of a progressive and sustainable bike track or park. Whether you require an overhaul of an existing facility, or the initial planning of a new park, we offer a full range of services from concept to completion.
Community Consultation and Project Planning
Transitions Bike Parks is able to effectively engage all stakeholders involved in the approval and development process including local riders, the community and approval agencies to establish a clear framework for the project. Our team can guide the initial discussions and fairly balance the wants and needs of riders with the requirements and expectations of municipalities and authorities. Speaking the language of all groups is critical to the success of a bike parks development, and our team excels in this ability.
Our team bridges the gap between riders, the public and municipalities.
Site Analysis and Selection
Our team can advise on the merits of multiple possible sites for your new facility, and establish criteria for the final selection of the best possible area to develop. Considerations such as existing site conditions such as topography, vegetation, environmental features, and site amenities such as servicing, parking and accessibility can all be measured in terms of contributing to the parks overall design and operation.
A detailed report can be prepared outlining the various options for multiple potential sites including the pros and cons of each location. This report and recommendation can be used for agency and community consideration.
Conceptual and Detailed Design
Beginning with the desired overall theme of a park, whether it is a simple pump track or a comprehensive freestyle BMX park, we work the opportunities and constraints of the site and budget to design a facility that best meets the wants of the community, with the requirements of the client. We aim to develop a layout that blends into the existing landscape with minimal disruption, offering a customized facility that maximizes engineering and construction value.
A coloured conceptual rendering showing several possible configurations of what the park could look like provides the opportunity for discussion and review amongst stakeholders.
After a preferred concept is established by the community and stakeholders, detailed site and track plan preparation using scaled 2D and 3D design commences to accurately lay out the park including all existing site conditions and amenities, park obstacles and features, with proposed elevations and dimensions on a scaled and buildable plan. This detailed drawing package can include existing conditions, site grading, drainage, landscape plan and site plan that can be used for agency approvals, volume calculations, cost estimation and construction tendering, if required.
Our team has over 10 years of experience in multiple aspects of the site development process, including the preparation, review and internal approval of detailed site plans and drawings, accurate budgeting and construction scheduling.
Our wide range of experience in the municipal approvals of recreational bike track design and development is unparalleled in Ontario.
To properly build and establish a functioning and sustainable bike park or track is not quite as simple as dumping truckloads of dirt in the middle of a park, shifting it around into jumps with a machine, and hand finishing it using local riders to shape and pack everything down. This well intentioned approach has historically been used many times in the development of bike park and tracks, and unfortunately results in an inconsistent and sub-par facility, both in terms of a functional layout and creating a durable product.
Would you want to ride a set of jumps built by someone who has never gone off a jump before?
Everyone on our team and associated partners bring a wealth of knowledge, skill and expertise that has been acquired through both training and years of first hand riding and building experience. We believe that the ability to ride and test everything that our team builds is critical to the overall development and success of a park. Transitions Bike Parks is a rider owned company and we pride ourselves in having the skill to ride and test firsthand everything we create.
We offer expert construction services of bike park and track facilities using proven techniques by a dedicated and highly skilled team of builders and shapers. The result of our work is a consistent and seamless product that is built to the highest standard to withstand the rigors of the elements and frequent use.
Transitions Bike Parks and our associated subcontractors offer comprehensive development of bike tracks, trails and parks utilizing the following materials:
As a full service construction company, we are able to offer the following services, but not limited to;
Operations and Maintenance
After your facility has been completed and is ready to ride, it will require a certain level of maintenance in order to operate and remain sustainable. Regular upkeep of the track and its features is required, and should be carried out by individuals trained and skilled in the grooming, repair and adjustments that will inevitably be required.
Transitions Bike Parks is able to provide regular maintenance services, including park opening and closing, repairs and modifications as needed. We are also able to train staff to properly care for the facility and how to implement a regular maintenance routine in the parks operations.

Advantages of our Specialized Team
This niche market of BMX park construction and maintenance requires dedicated individuals with extensive firsthand experience in the sport. Not only does the work require the utmost skill in crafting the physical features of the course, but knowledge of how to appropriately link the components together into a functional and enjoyable layout.
This expertise can only come through multiple years of building, maintaining and equally importantly – the ability to properly ride the finished facility. Each one of our specialized team possesses the desire and passion to create the best possible course to satisfy their desire to ride a safe, fun and challenging course, whether it is on a BMX or MTB.
Transitions Development and its affiliated subcontractors are able to offer a single phase operation with focused construction tasks that will create the best possible product in the shortest period of time. We do not require ample time to deliberate on order of operations or what techniques should be used, or wasted hours coordinating labourers. Our small crew is able to quickly mobilize construction and begin working effectively to achieve the desired end result with minimal setup time. We firmly believe that our team offers the best and most cost effective approach to revamping the facility.
Our small team has numerous advantages and we feel that we offer a very comprehensive package including a leading specialized machine operator and some of the best technically skilled hand shapers and groomers in Southern Ontario.
Benefits over Volunteer and City Collaboration
Involving the end users in the maintenance and upkeep of their facility is a great way to create track ownership and pride from the riders. It can also help to foster the relationship between the BMX and MTB community and the City. While this is a positive and well intentioned practice, the current status of the park requires a more dedicated and experienced team to revamp the entire track to the highest possible standard.
The nature of volunteer labour and community involvement can be viewed as a piecemeal approach. Varying levels of knowledge, skill and time commitment to the project will inevitably result in a noticeable lack of consistency between features, including multiple construction and repair techniques, different compaction levels, and most importantly an unacceptable range of shapes and angles in launch and landing ramps. This deviation between obstacles creates a less enjoyable riding experience for users, and in the worst case scenario, a potentially dangerous situation as riders are forced to alter their approach between features to accommodate for the varying style of shape and finishing.
We recommend involving the facility users in the ongoing maintenance of the facility including course grooming, watering, rock and debris removal and site cleanup and garbage pickup. Employing our services in the short term will create a facility that is far easier to manage by a volunteer and City work force once set and completed to our high standards.
